When Bangalore needed people to step forward during COVID-19, Om showed up and and kept showing up. Seven departments, fifteen operations, and a team of 50+ volunteers he personally led through one of the hardest periods the city had ever seen.
Om Satish Kawale served as a recognised Corona Warrior with Karnataka State Government and working alongside police, BBMP, and municipal bodies, leading a team of 50+ volunteers in the home quarantine and isolation squad. He coordinated with all crematoriums in Bangalore through the Indian Institute of HAMs control room, and served at airports, railway stations, and migrant worker centres during the most critical phases of the pandemic. The kind of work that doesn't make headlines and but mattered enormously to the people on the receiving end of it.
Developed and implemented a self-defence programme for over 100 students of underserved communities in association with the Dream School Foundation NGO. Trained students of grades 8 and 9 across three batches during a summer camp in April 2022 and covering basic unlocking, punch, kick, and other protective techniques. The sessions were especially impactful for the girls, giving them real tools and real confidence to protect themselves.
While serving as a Warden with the Karnataka Civil Defence Corps, Om and his team contained a fire in a residential area and protecting the lives of 500+ families in Gunatha Vihar. The Ministry of Defence formally recognised the contribution with a Letter of Appreciation. The kind of moment where training meets instinct.
